This fall I was part of a group exhibition at l’Archipel with my six studio mates. Being a member of l’Archipel means taking a yearly trip where each person creates his or her own personal project. This year the destination was Ïle d’Orléans, an island off of Quebec city. It was my first time there, which was nice because my perspective was fresh and there was an element of surprise.
As a commercial photographer, I have the opportunity to work on lots of fun projects, many of which offer me a fair amount of flexibility and creativity. However on personal projects, there’s no client to please; there was only me. This was a challenging notion and it definitely opened up some new windows of creativity for me.
It was also a chance for me to work with our curator and a long-time client and friend, art director Eric Soulier. I chose to focus on Mexican migrant laborers, working on strawberry and raspberry farms. Here are the works I exhibited, and a link to the full exhibit.

Cet automne, j'ai participé à une exposition de groupe à l'Archipel avec mes six compagnons de studio. Les membres d' de l’Archipel font à chaque année un voyage où chaque personne crée son propre projet personnel. Cette année, la destination était l’Île d'Orléans, une île près de la ville de Québec. C'était ma première visite à l’île et je me suis laissée inspirée par ses paysages et ses gens. En tant que photographe commercial, j'ai l'occasion de travailler sur beaucoup de projets trippants, dont certains me permettent une grande flexibilité et créativité. Cependant sur des projets personnels, il n'y a pas de client à plaire. Il n’y a que moi. C'était un défi de m’aligner sur un sujet qui me branchait profondément; un exercice créatif très signifiant qui m’a ouvert l’esprit sur des nouveaux horizons.
C'était également une chance de travailler avec notre commissaire et un client et ami de longue date, le directeur artistique Eric Soulier. J'ai choisi de me concentrer sur les travailleurs migrants mexicains qui cultivent les fraises et les framboises. Voici les œuvres que j'ai exposées, et un lien vers l'exposition complète.
